Target-View.com: hey folks first of all let’s start
where all things should, could you give a brief description of your band?
Teut: A woman, a man, a kitchen, beer, fights - sometimes. Throw in a few instruments and you got a rock n roll band.
Coco: We're called Standoff. We play punk rock. We record
in our kitchen.
T-V: So how many members?
Coco: Two, Teut and I. I sing.
Teut: I play bass and guitar.
Coco: We program the beats and write the lyrics together.
T-V: yea iv seen a video of urs! its very cool
Teut: Thanks. We recorded it with a piece of shit camera in our
kitchen.
T-V: Thats nice..lol. do u ever performed live in anywhere?
Coco & Teut: Not yet. We're planning to play some
gigs in Munich and California next spring.
T-V: How did you and Coco meet and eventually form the
band?
Teut: We met 5 years ago in LA, hated each other passionately, fell in love, got married and spawned a punk band.
T-V: cool, so u both are from germany?
Coco: Teut's from germany. I'm from L.A.
T-V: I really like the song, “All Right”
whats the story behind that particular track?
Coco: We fight a lot.
Teut: We fight all the time. But its allright.
Coco: The song is about relationship dynamics.
Teut: An ode to domestic abuse. But, seriously: Fighting's
good. You never have to deal with bad energy lingering.
T-V: How did you come up with the name, Standoff? Were there any other names you were considering?
Teut: There were other names. I cant't list them as I
might use them in the future :)
Coco: We're both very headstrong. So Standoff seemed
a good fit...
T-V: Every artist has a different method for creating, what
is your process when writing a new song?
Coco: A guitar riff, a bass riff, a couple words, a fleeting thought. The drums, later...the lyrics last. Sometimes the other way around.
T-V: do u have any plans to release a new album in a
near future?
Coco & Teut: Absolutely. 2010.
T-V: I can't wait to hear your new songs!
Coco & Teut: We appreciate your enthusiasm!
T-V: Where would you like your music career to be in
the next five years?
Teut: Seriously?
Coco & Teut: We wanna be rockstars!
T-V: good luck then. Most of the people dosnt even know
u exist!
Coco: Well, they will eventually. We're just taking it
day by day.
Teut: But hey – you gotta aim high. I've seen a
lot of good bands that quit before they could get anywhere. Self irony helps too, I guess.
T-V: What would be ur favorite song to play live?
Coco: Good question. The new song we're working on right
now – it's called "sick of myself" – is the most fun to sing.
Teut: "Descent" 'cause I get to play a raunchy solo
on the guitar. Which is somewhat self-indulgent, as there's way too many of them in rock
n roll music. They're like SUV's or breast implants.
T-V: 2 differnt songs for both of u? I guess u too gonna start fighting when playing live!
Teut: Yeah, that'll be our special allure, the reason
people come to see us perform.
Coco: Yes! Controversy is sexy.
T-V: Whats your all-time favorite band and why?
Teut: The Stooges – for their fuck-offishness,Black
Sabbath for their mean, mean guitar riffs,Velvet Underground cause Lou
Reed has the sexiest voice on the planet,Glenn Danzig as he's the legitimate
heir of Elvis. I also love the alex harvey band, they're just overall
awesome and they were way ahead of their time.
Coco: I like bands that sound melodic but also have an
edge. Bands like The Kills, Sonic Youth, The Faint, the Black Keys, The White Stripes, Courtney Love, The Pixies... but also pop chicks like Madonna and Lady GaGa - even Britney...too bad she's such a mess.
T-V: What are you guys interested in other than music?
Teut: Film-making. Drinking. Boxing. And ladies tennis.
I like the outfits.
Coco: Art. Fashion. Life.
T-V: Is there anything u 2 can't live without?
Coco & Teut: Music. Each other. Beer. Good weather. Truth.
Beauty. Ice Cream.
T-V: How about fights?
Coco: Of course! - Comes with the territory.
T-V: If you could change one thing about the music industry
what would it be?
Teut: The "industry" part.
T-V: Everything?
Teut: No, just the part where a bunch of suits try to
commercialize, dilute, commodify and sell out everything that's good, sexy & genuine about the music and the people that play it.
T-V: Tell us a fact about yourself we probably dont already
know!
Teut: I have a thing for people with good manners. And
good posture.
Coco: I hate to do dishes.
T-V: You should put teut when it come to dishes!
Teut: I hate them also. Maybe you get an idea where some
of our fights start...
Coco: He does them anyway.
Teut: Yeah. I just toss them out of the window and have
her buy new ones.
T-V: haha! i should do the same thing
Teut: There you go. Very efficient! And you'll never
have a female complain about dirty dishes!
Coco: Just about broken ones.
T-V: Thx for this awesome Interview. We hope to hear more from u in the near future. And goodluck with ur music career hope to see ya soon again on Target View. Greetings from Soulundone
